Spring Valley by Limassol-headquartered Playkot launching in China

Spring Valley by Playkot has received a Chinese ISBN license, allowing them to launch the game in China on both iOS App Store and the local Android app stores.

So far in 2023, The National Press and Publication Administration of China (NPPA) has licensed only 27 foreign games for release in China, including Spring Valley.

“China's mobile gaming market is tough but lucrative, with over 681 million gamers and $43 billion in revenue in 2020,” Jane Artemova, Playkot’s Business Development Manager, says.

“However, it's difficult and costly for foreign companies to obtain a license due to heavy regulation and strict content requirements. Only a few dozen of thousands of applicants get licenses each year. Fortunately, our project made the cut, which is fantastic. Spring Valley’s team did an excellent job, and I'm proud of us.”

To recap, NPPA started licensing games from foreign developers again in December 2022. Prior to that, it had been holding foreign games off the Chinese market for a year and a half.

Spring Valley was released globally in April 2022. Since then, the game has earned about $4.2 million from IAP, and its downloads have reached 4 million.

Playkot is an international developer of free-to-play mobile games, with headquarters in Limassol, Cyprus, and Belgrade, Serbia. They are the creators of popular titles like SuperCity and Age of Magic.
