Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos set out his goals for the city during the recent INSPIRE 2026 Entrepreneurial Festival as part of a series of podcasts sponsored by Odyssey and hosted by Henry’s by Columbia.
Among other things, Pountzos revealed that, “My biggest goal for the next few years is to make Nicosia the best place for somebody to live, to invest, to do business in and to visit. This is not an easy task, but we have the plan and we are taking the right steps to go towards that direction.”
He noted that the challenges of merging four legacy municipalities have been successful and that Nicosia Municipality was now in a better position in terms of its finances and in being able to better serve its residents.
The Mayor revealed that he was very pleased with how Nicosia is growing, noting tihs was being achieved in a sustainable way, “Its investment is inclusive and we do not see the phenomena that we witness in other European cities or even in Cyprus with people being left out.”
Prountzos also underlined the fact that the city’s six universities were growing, “creating new talent and they are bringing about new opportunities in the fields of technology, research and innovation.”
Welcoming the carrying out of events like INSPIRE, the Mayor also noted that “We are investing heavily in culture, entertainment and we are targeting different target groups, children, the elderly and of course parents in order to make the city more inclusive and more lively for its people. And I think it's working because in the last few months the city is full of events, like INSPIRE, that are bringing people to the centre of the city and they're creating a really nice atmosphere.”
