Dr Marinos Stavrou, Officer at the Research and Planning Directorate of the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus (HRDA), highlighted the significant transformation expected across the labour market due to artificial intelligence and the green and digital transitions.
Speaking at Inspire 2026’s ‘Future of Work’ Stage at the recent INSPIRE 2026 Entrepreunerial Festival, Stavrou explained that HRDA studies indicate continued employment growth alongside substantial changes in professional requirements.
“Almost all roles, professions and skills in the labour market will be transformed,” he said.
He stressed that technical expertise will increasingly need to be complemented by broader competencies, including empathy, leadership and collaboration.
Stavrou also emphasised the importance of lifelong learning and reskilling, particularly as employees adapt to emerging professional opportunities.
“We need to develop a culture of lifelong learning and acquiring new skills,” he explained.
Discussing practical measures, he highlighted individual learning accounts and micro-credentials, which allow professionals to complete shorter training programmes and obtain certification for specific competencies.
He also stressed the importance of accessible training opportunities, particularly for individuals facing caregiving responsibilities or mobility difficulties.
Regarding university education, Stavrou described degrees as an important foundation upon which individuals can continuously build additional skills throughout their professional lives.
