For the ninth consecutive year, the National Betting Authority (NBA) is organising the 9th Safer Gambling Conference, as part of Safer Gambling Week 2026.
This year’s conference will take place on Monday, 12 October 2026, from 09:00 to 14:30, at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia. The conference will bring together international experts, representatives of regulatory authorities, academics, industry professionals and other key stakeholders to exchange knowledge and share experiences on the evolving challenges of player protection.
Under the central theme “The Future of Player Protection: Shaping a More Sustainable Gambling Industry Through Innovation,” this year’s conference will explore how scientific knowledge, regulation, technology and innovation can contribute to creating a safer and more sustainable environment for players.
The programme will feature thematic sessions and discussions on the regulation of gambling-related harms, the psychological and biological factors influencing risk-taking, as well as developments in the European regulatory landscape and efforts to strengthen player protection.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the illegal gambling market, with discussions focusing on current trends, the challenges faced by regulatory authorities, and the potential use of data and other tools to identify and tackle illegal activity.
Safer Gambling Week 2026 includes a series of information and awareness-raising activities aimed at fostering a more informed and responsible approach to betting and gambling. Particular emphasis will be placed on prevention and protection of players, with specific attention given to young people and vulnerable groups.
Through presentations, thematic discussions and the exchange of different perspectives, the 9th Safer Gambling Conference aims to provide a meaningful forum for dialogue on the future of player protection, highlighting practical and innovative approaches that can contribute to creating a safer and more sustainable environment for participation in gambling activities.
The National Betting Authority
The National Betting Authority is a regulatory authority governed by the Betting Law of 2019. The NBA is responsible for the licensing, regulation and supervision of betting activities conducted within the Republic of Cyprus.
In addition, the Authority is responsible for cooperating and engaging with relevant stakeholders, government services and international organisations on matters relating to betting activities. It is also responsible for implementing specific measures aimed at preventing and protecting young people and vulnerable groups from gambling addiction.
