Cyprus ranks ninth in Henley Crypto Adoption Index 2026

Cyprus has ranked ninth among 36 countries for the environment it offers to international mobile digital investors, according to the Crypto Wealth Report 2026, published by Henley & Partners.

The index evaluates jurisdictions that offer residency or citizenship pathways and examines their approach to the adoption and regulation of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

The ranking is based on more than 900 data points across six parameters, each scored out of ten. These include public adoption, infrastructure adoption, innovation and technology, regulatory environment, economic factors and tax treatment.

Cyprus recorded an overall score of 39.8 points out of a possible 60 in the Henley Crypto Adoption Index 2026, placing it among the top ten jurisdictions and making it one of only three European Union member states to achieve such a ranking.

It sits just behind the United Kingdom, which scored 40.7 points, and ahead of the Bahamas, which completes the top ten with 39.7 points. Among the EU countries included in the index, only Malta, ranked sixth with 42.9 points, performed better than Cyprus.

Cyprus achieved its highest individual score in the regulatory environment category, with 8.4 points. This was followed by economic factors at 8.1 points, tax treatment at 7.2 points and public adoption at 7 points.

Its performance was comparatively lower in innovation and technology, where it scored 5.1 points, and infrastructure adoption, where it received 4 points.

According to the report, published yesterday, Cyprus is emerging as an active base within the EU for regulated cryptocurrency businesses, with the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission licensing exchanges, custodian service providers and other industry companies under the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

High levels of public participation, the operation of a regulatory testing environment and competitive tax treatment have helped place Cyprus among the European countries with the highest scores, according to Henley & Partners.

Cyprus also outperformed several other EU countries included in the index. Italy ranked 19th with 34.2 points, Austria 20th with 34 points, Luxembourg 21st with 33.2 points, Portugal 23rd with 32.5 points and Latvia 24th with 32.3 points.
