The trade deficit in the first six months of the year recorded an annual increase according to CySTAT.
In a press release, it said that the trade deficit was €4,679.1m in January–June 2026 compared to €4,055.1m in the corresponding period of 2025.
CySTAT published the foreign trade statistics' final data for May and provisional data for June.
June 2026, Provisional Data
Total imports of goods in June 2026 were €1,289.3m as compared to €1,152.2m in June 2025, recording an increase of 11.9%.
Imports from other EU Member States were €730.7m and from third countries €558.6m, compared to €615.1m and €537.1m respectively in June 2025.
Imports in June 2026 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with a total value of €117.8m, compared with €55.8m in June 2025.
Total exports of goods in June 2026 were €463.0m as compared to €514.1m in June 2025, recording a decrease of 9.9%.
Exports to other EU Member States were €212.0m and to third countries €251.0m, compared to €149.0m and €365.1m respectively in June 2025.
Exports in June 2026 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels and aircraft, with a total value of €77.3m, compared with €68.5m in June 2025.
Total imports of goods in January-June 2026 amounted to €7,296.8m as compared to €6,705.4m in January-June 2025, recording an increase of 8.8%.
Total exports of goods in January-June 2026 were €2,617.7m compared to €2,650.3m in January-June 2025, registering a decrease of 1.2%.
The trade deficit was €4,679.1m in January–June 2026 compared to €4,055.1m in the corresponding period of 2025.
May 2026, Final Data
Total imports of goods amounted to €1,309.4m in May 2026, compared with €1,070.1m in May 2025, recording an increase of 22.4%.
Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €348.1m in May 2026 as compared to €212.4m in May 2025, recording an increase of 63.9%.
Domestic exports of industrial products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €334.7m in May 2026 compared to €197.9m in May 2025.
Domestic exports of agricultural products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €12.2m in May 2026 compared to €13.3m in May 2025.
Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €173.5m in May 2026 as compared to €115.3m in May 2025, recording an increase of 50.5%.
Main categories of exports of domestically produced goods for the period January-May 2026 (excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft) were mineral fuels and oils with a value of €743.6m, halloumi cheese with €167.5m and pharmaceutical products with €144.2m.
