Stablecoins are emerging as one of the defining drivers of the new digital economy, already influencing the way payments are made and how funds are transferred.
From banks and payment institutions to fintechs and central banks, interest in stablecoins continues to grow, as the market explores the next generation of secure, fast and global digital transactions.
Against this rapidly evolving market, Ignazio Angeloni, Senior Policy Fellow at Bocconi University and SAFE, former member of the ECB Supervisory Board and former Director General for Financial Stability at the European Central Bank, will discuss the The Future of Stablecoins: Stablecoins & the Evolution of Digital Payments.
His intervention will form part of the programme of the Digital Assets and the Future of Finance Summit 2026, which will take place on 7 July 2026 at City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol.
He will examine how stablecoins are transforming the payments ecosystem, the challenges they pose for financial stability, and how supervisory authorities are seeking to strike the right balance between innovation and the safety of transactions.
Ignazio Angeloni is widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced figures in the European financial ecosystem. From 2014 to 2019, he served as a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank. Prior to that, he coordinated the establishment of the Single Supervisory Mechanism as Director General for Financial Stability at the ECB.
Over the course of his distinguished career, he has also served as Director for International Relations at the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, Deputy Director General Research at the ECB and Director at the Bank of Italy. He has also produced significant academic and research work in the fields of financial markets and monetary policy.
