Cyprus recorded a share of 51.8% women employed in science and technology sectors in 2025, according to data published on Friday by Eurostat.
According to the statistical service, in 2025 more than 81.6 million people aged 15 to 74 were employed in science and technology occupations in the European Union. This represents an increase of 1.8% compared with 2024, equivalent to around 1.5 million additional workers, while compared with 2015 there is an increase of 25.3%. Of the total workforce in the sector, 52.5% were women, or 42.8 million people.
It is noted that science and technology occupations include jobs requiring high-level professional or technical knowledge in fields of physical and life sciences, social sciences, or humanities.
At NUTS 1 regional level, the highest shares of women in the sector were recorded in Latvia (62.4%), in the Hungarian region Great Plain and North (61.1%), and in Estonia (60.5%). At the other end of the scale, the lowest shares were observed in the French region of Corsica (42.7%), in Malta (46.0%), and in the Italian region of Centro (47.2%).
