Total petroleum product sales in Cyprus declined in April , although the broader picture for the first four months of the year remained positive, according to official data released by CySTAT.
Total petroleum sales reached 118,375 tonnes during the month, recording a 5% year-on-year decrease compared with April 2025. The decline reflected weaker demand across several fuel categories, as well as lower fuel supplies to aircraft and ships.
On an annual basis, the sharpest decreases were recorded in heavy fuel oil sales (-58.8%) and light fuel oil (-40.3%). Declines were also registered in heating gasoil (-8%), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) (-4.2%), road diesel (-3.3%) and gasoline (-0.4%). Fuel supplies to aircraft fell by 2.3%, while marine fuel supplies declined by 1.7%.
By contrast, kerosene sales rose sharply by 34.4%, while asphalt sales increased by 4.3%.
Sales through petroleum service stations reached 53,151 tonnes, marking a year-on-year decline of 2.9%.
Compared with March 2026, total petroleum sales dropped by 7%, driven by lower road diesel sales (-10.1%), reduced marine fuel supplies (-6.8%) and weaker gasoline sales (-4.2%). However, fuel supplies to aircraft recorded a substantial monthly increase of 52.3%.
Meanwhile, total petroleum inventories at the end of April rose by 22.3% compared with the previous month, potentially reflecting stock management adjustments by market operators.
Despite the weaker April performance, petroleum sales for the January-April 2026 period remained on an upward trend, posting a 5.9% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
