Education is a strategic national priority, the President says

Education is a strategic national priority and a key driver of sustainable growth, innovation and social progress, President of the Republic of Cyprus  Nikos Christodoulides has said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new PASCAL Limassol Main Campus on the evening of 27 May, he noted that "education today is not solely about academic achievement. It is about helping young people feel supported, inspired and empowered to develop holistically."

Referring to the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, he said that "across Europe, educational priorities increasingly emphasize innovation, digital readiness, sustainability and student well-being."

These priorities, Christodoulides added, "are also closely aligned with the broader vision and our policies promoted by our Government, which considers education a strategic national priority and a key driver of sustainable growth, innovation and social progress."

Moreover, he noted that significant emphasis is being placed on modernizing education through digital transformation, strengthening research and innovation, and investing in skills and lifelong learning, adding that "the goal is clear: to ensure that every young person is equipped to thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world."

President Christodoulides said that during the ongoing Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, particular emphasis is being placed on strengthening the European dimension of education, promoting quality and inclusive learning, and advancing skills, mobility and cooperation across Europe.

"Our vision is to build an education system that combines academic excellence with inclusion, creativity, adaptability and international outlook, fully aligned with Europe’s green and digital future," he concluded.
