The business community views the outcome of the Parliamentary Elections positively, emphasising that it creates prospects for achieving the necessary parliamentary majorities for the effective functioning of the state and for maintaining the momentum of the economy, the Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Philokypros Rousounides, and the Director General of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), Michalis Antoniou, told InBusinessNews.
“First of all, as a Chamber, we would like to congratulate all parliamentary parties, as well as the Members of Parliament who were elected,” Rousounides said.
“As an institutional business body, our mission is to safeguard the well‑understood interests of the business community, as well as a prosperous society, in order to maintain social cohesion. We believe that the election result is moving in a positive direction, in the sense that we will not have the fragmented parliament we initially feared. This is because when there are too many small parliamentary parties, it creates risks and makes it far more difficult to discuss bills, amendments, and so on in a constructive way,” he added.
Rousounides continued, “we are at the disposal of the State, Members of Parliament, and political parties, so that we can work constructively to address challenges relating to the economy, trade, and industry.”
At the same time, the President and members of the Board of Directors of the CCCI express their warm congratulations to the newly elected members of the House of Representatives and wish them every success in their duties.
In its announcement, the CCCI expresses confidence that the new parliamentary term will be a period of productive work and responsible decision‑making, with emphasis on promoting substantial reforms and policies that respond to the needs of the economy and society, contributing to the sustainable development and prosperity of the country.
“In a period of increased international challenges and ongoing geo-economic developments, close cooperation between the State, Parliament, and the business community is more necessary than ever,” it noted.
At the same time, the CCCI reaffirms its readiness and willingness to cooperate meaningfully with the new House of Representatives, contributing with documented positions, constructive proposals, and responsible recommendations toward shaping policies that strengthen economic competitiveness, business development, and social cohesion.
The CCCI said will continue to work consistently for:
-
An outward-looking, sustainable, and resilient economy
-
Strong and competitive entrepreneurship
-
A prosperous and happy society
-
A modern, effective, and development-friendly state
For his part, the Director General of the OEB, Antoniou, speaking to InBusinessNews, after clarifying that “the choices of the sovereign people are always respected,” stressed that “an additional positive outcome of the electoral process is that there is a balance of power that creates prospects for the necessary parliamentary majorities, which will lead to the effective functioning of the state, allowing for the uninterrupted continuation of the country’s development path and the utilization of its momentum for the continuous improvement of the people’s standard of living.”
OEB, he continued, “through well-argued and documented positions and proposals, will continue to seek cooperation with all parliamentary forces in order to promote a business-friendly environment and legislative regulations that will unlock the creative potential of entrepreneurship, with seriousness, a sense of responsibility, and respect for all views that may differ from our own.”
