The 56 members of the new Parliament have been chosen

The 56 members of the new Parliament have been elected and will be sworn in during a dedicated ceremoney in Nicosia at noon.

Some new faces have entered Parliament, while the majority of those who ran for re-election were re-elected and their parties succeeded in being in Parliament again. 

The nineteen members of parliament for Nicosia

First in preference crosses from the Democratic Rally (DISY), but also nationwide, was the MP, Demetris Demetriou, who received 13,157 votes. In second place was George Pamborides with 12,040, while in third place was Savvia Orphanidou with 11,371. Fourth was Andreas Constantinou with 10,238 preference crosses and fifth was Charalambos Petrides with 8,252. In fact, Pamborides, Constantinou and Petrides were elected for the first time.

From AKEL in Nicosia, the party's General Secretary, Stefanos Stefanou, was elected without a preference cross, while Christos Christofides finished in second place with 10,911 and Aristos Damianou third with 10,673. George Loucaides, who received 10,623, will also continue to be in Parliament. From AKEL, a new person in Parliament will be the journalist, Constantinos Constantinou, who received 9,986 votes.

For ELAM in the capital, the party leader, Christos Christou, was re-elected, in second place was Marios Pelekanos with 6,681 and in third place was Andreas Papacharalambous who received 2,966, with the latter two achieving entry into Parliament for the first time.

All three members of the party's parliament were re-elected from DIKO, namely its leader, Nikolas Papadopoulos, the deputy leader, Christiana Erotokritou, who received 5,844, and third Chrysis Pantelidis with 4,541.

Also elected in Nicosia are Odysseas Michaelides, without a cross of preference, and Irini Charalambidou, who received 5,943 votes from the ALMA Movement.

From Amesi Dimokratia Kyprou (Direct Democracy), Fidias Panayiotou was elected with 5,108 votes, who will have to decide whether to keep his seat in the European Parliament or whether to take the seat in Parliament. If he chooses the former, then his seat in Parliament is anticipated to be taken by Yiannis Laouris.

The 12 members of parliament of Limassol

Nine new MPs and three incumbents have been elected in the Limassol district.

Specifically, ifor DISY, Fotini Tsiridou was elected with 6956 votes, Giorgos Karaiskakis with 5504, Michalis Fellas with 4856 and Michalis Kounounis with 3473 votes.

For AKEL, Ephraim Christou was elected with 4966 votes, Marina Nikolaou with 4294 and Argendoula Ioannou with 3803 votes.

For ELAM, Polys Anogyriatis with 2970 votes and Eugenios Chamboullas with 2710 votes.

For DIKO, Panicos Leonidou retained his seat with 3352 votes, from ALMA, Michalis Paraskevas with 1408 votes and from Amesi Dimokratia Kyprou, Demetris Souglis with 2766 votes.

The 11 MPs forFamagusta 

The battle fought in the Famagusta district, which monopolised interest in the individuals who would be elected to the new composition of the Parliament, recorded comfortable victories, as well as 'thrillers' that lasted until the very end.

DISY, which won three seats, compared to four in the previous process, re-elected Giorgos Karoulas and Nikos Georgiou, who received 9,540 and 7,723 votes respectively. In third place was the president of the Pancyprian Refugee Union, Giorgos Lysandrides, with 6,827.

For AKEL, the three MPs managed to maintain their positions, with Nikos Kettiros taking first place with 11,510 votes and Giorgos Koukoumas in second place with 9,292 crosses of preference. In third place, Giannakis Gavriil finished with 4,120. 

The two cousins, Linos Papagiannis and Linos Hadjigeorgiou, who were elected by a landslide on behalf of ELAM, comfortably prevailed. The two of them received 7,003 and 4,869 votes respectively. 

A huge battle was fought for DIKO, with Zacharias Koulias and Christos Senekis fighting until the last moment for the lead. In the end, Koulias was elected with a difference of just 67 votes, receiving 2,700 against 2,633 for his co-candidate.

The same scenario was also seen in ALMA, with Litsa Drousiotis and Vasilios Mavrou vying for the position. Drousiotis received 511, while Mavrou received 473.

Finally, Amesi Dimokratia Kyprou managed to elect its vice president, Diana Konstantinidou, with 1,657 crosses of preference.

The 6 MPs for Larnaca

The new Larnaca MPs were elected with ease, since the difference from their co-candidates was significant and their position was locked in long before the official election results were announced. 

Specifically, on behalf of AKEL, Andreas Pasiourtidis and Panikos Xiouroupas occupied the first two positions with 7,698 and 5,090 votes respectively, while Marios Stylianou finished in third place with 1,126. 

On the DISY side, the party's president, Annita Dimitriou, was elected without a cross of preference, while the party's current MP, Prodromos Alampritis, succeeded in entering, receiving 7,297 votes. Andrea Theologos Manoli finished in third place with 2,626.  

As for DIKO, Andreas Apostolou also had a large gap from his fellow candidates, coming in first with 3,679 crosses of preference, while Dimitris Dimitriou (Tzimis) finished in second place with 1,268. 

Finally, forELAM, Sotiris Ioannou was re-elected with 3,158 crosses and Valentinos Alamangos finished second with 742 votes.

The 5 MPs for Paphos 

In Paphos, the first in preference crosses is Chrysanthos Savvides from DIKO, with 4,778, followed by Charalambos Pazaros from DISY with 4,609, Valentinos Fakondis from AKEL with 3,943, while for the first time, Nikoleta Constantinou (DISY) was elected with 3,608, while Dimitris Baros from Amesi Dimokratia Kyprou was elected with just 280 votes.

The 3 MPs for Kyrenia

New faces will represent Kyrenia in the next five years, as both AKEL and DISY are entering new MPs, while DIKO is the winner, having managed to secure the third seat in the province.

Specifically, AKEL was the first to break the deadlock, with Anastasia Hasikou winning over the voters of the Left. It is noted that in the previous five years, the position had been secured by Christos Christofias, who did not seek a seat in Parliament again due to the party's statutes, which had a clause that provincials could not seek a seat in Parliament. Hasikou managed to secure 2,240 crosses of preference. 

As for the Democratic Rally, the position has been secured by Dimos Georgiades, the president of NEDISY. Georgiades' co-candidate was Rita Theodorou-Superman, who had been elected to the position of DISY MP for the province, having run as an Aristide candidate in the previous five-year term. Georgiades secured 1,935 preference crosses.  

It is noted that DISY also had a second seat in Kyrenia in the previous five years, which was secured by Marios Mavrides, who in these parliamentary elections had sought a new entry into Parliament, from the position of representative of the Maronite community, however his opponent, Petros Nakouzis, ultimately managed to prevail.

DIKO managed to win the third seat in the province, electing Adamos Aspris as MP, who secured 776 votes.
