One in three voters decided not to go to the polls, as voter abstention across Cyprus was recorded at 33.6%. Final turnout in the 2026 parliamentary elections reached 66.4%.
According to the Chief Returning Officer, Elikkos Elias, 378,150 voters cast their ballots in Sunday’s elections out of 569,182 eligible voters.
Compared to the previous parliamentary elections in 2021, turnout increased by 2.5%.
According to Elias, a total of 4,374 people voted at the 13 overseas polling stations, out of 6,501 submitted voter declarations.
At the 13 polling stations operating for the election of the Representative of the Religious Group of the Maronites, 3,175 people voted out of 4,624 registered voters, corresponding to a turnout rate of 68.7%.
In Nicosia, final voter turnout reached 67.2%, marking an increase of 4 percentage points compared to 2021. Turnout in the capital was higher than in the European Parliament elections (65.8%), but did not reach the levels recorded in the presidential elections (72.8%).
Turnout in Limassol increased by only 0.9% compared to the previous parliamentary elections, reaching 61.9%. However, it remained significantly lower than in the previous presidential elections (69.3%) and European elections (65.4%).
Famagusta was the only district where a decrease in turnout was recorded compared to the previous parliamentary elections, falling by 0.8%, although it still recorded the highest turnout rate nationwide at 72.3%. The figure was similar to that of the presidential elections (73%), but below the European elections turnout (76.4%).
In Larnaca, turnout increased by 3.3% compared to 2021, reaching 67.3%. The figure remains considerably lower than turnout in the presidential elections (72.3%) and European elections (70.3%).
In Paphos, voter turnout remained at roughly the same levels as last year, reaching 71% (2021: 70.3%). Turnout exceeded that of the European elections (69.9%), but not that of the presidential elections (75.6%).
The largest increase in turnout compared to 2021 was recorded among overseas voters, where turnout reached 67.3%, an increase of 5.4 percentage points over 2021. Participation was also higher compared to the European elections (61.6%), but lower than in the presidential elections (73.5%).
