An under-construction apartment building in the Apostolos Andreas government housing estate in the Municipality of Latsia–Geri has been presented at the 28th International Passive House Conference, recently held in Essen, Germany.
According to an announcement by the Interior Ministry, the International Passive House Conference is organised annually by the Passive House Institute and is considered one of the most important global events in the field of energy-efficient construction. The conference brings together hundreds of experts, professionals and stakeholders from around the world, aiming to promote innovative practices and technologies for buildings with near-zero energy consumption.
The event featured the latest developments in the design and construction of passive buildings, as well as best practices from international projects and policy frameworks that support the transition to a more sustainable built environment.
Among the projects presented was the apartment building under development in Latsia–Geri as part of the 'ktiZO' scheme, a government housing program in Cyprus aimed at replacing or upgrading aging residential buildings. It is the first building of its kind in Cyprus, designed to meet passive house certification standards.
The project was presented by contractor Milo Ilic, owner of Passive House Ltd, who highlighted the technical challenges and innovative features of the development. The Interior Ministry was represented by officials from the Department of Town Planning and Housing, who participated in thematic sessions to stay informed on the latest advancements in passive building design and construction.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and adopting modern sustainable development practices, contributing to the achievement of national and European targets for energy efficiency and environmental protection.
