Israeli travel company ISSTA is creating an "air bridge" between Jordan and Cyprus, due to the extraordinary restrictions on the flight schedule, as well as the one hundred passengers on each plane taking off from or landing in Tel Aviv.
According to an announcement by the company, daily flights will be operated from Aqaba Airport in Jordan to Paphos during the days of Passover - that is, from 30 March to 8 April -, with the aim of meeting the increased demand for short holidays abroad at a time when flight availability from Israel remains limited.
The initiative is part of a broader trend of adjustment in the aviation market, as reduced activity by foreign airlines in Israel and operational restrictions at the country's main airport lead to the search for solutions to transport travelers amid the chaotic situation in the Middle East.
At the same time, ISSTA has developed accommodation packages in Paphos, focusing on hotel units that meet the needs of the Israeli public during the festive season.
ISSTA's business model includes organised ground transportation of passengers from Israel to Jordan, facilitation of entry visas and full escort until boarding on flights from Aqaba. The flights will be operated by Electra Airways.
The use of Aqaba Airport as an alternative hub is not a new practice, however it is gaining increased importance in conditions of geopolitical uncertainty and limited availability of slots in Tel Aviv.
