Paphos Tourism Board Director Nasos Hadjigeorgiou satisfied with the region's 2025 performance

Paphos Regional Board of Tourism (ETAP) Director Nasos Hadjigeorgiou has expressed satisfaction with the performance of Paphos tourism in 2025, despite the intense geopolitical and economic challenges, also speaking of another year of further consolidation of the destination on a qualitative and sustainable basis.

Referring to 2026, in statements to CNA, Hadjigeorgiou noted that the Paphos Regional Board of Tourism aims at the qualitative upgrade and sustainable maturation of the destination, with an emphasis on year-round air connectivity, the further development of thematic markets (sports, wedding, wellness, rural, 55+), digital upgrading, accessibility for people with disabilities, the promotion of the countryside – particularly the Polis Chrysochous area – and the support of major events and activities.

Regarding aviation, Paphos, he pointed out, currently has a strong network of year-round connections with major air carriers, while efforts are continuing for new connections with Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Lebanon and Egypt, as well as for the presence of a Cypriot airline at the airport.

As he pointed out, 2025 was characterised by instability due to the conflict in the Middle East, the war between Russia and Ukraine, high energy costs, personnel shortages and the serious problem of water scarcity.

Despite all this, he added, the performance in arrivals and revenues is considered positive, confirming the resilience and correct strategy of the Paphos tourism ecosystem.

According to Mr. Hadjigeorgiou, 2025 was a landmark year for the emergence of Paphos as a multi-thematic, smart and sustainable destination, with tangible results in three key pillars.

The first concerns air connectivity and markets, where a significant increase in international accessibility was recorded, not only from the United Kingdom but also from markets such as Germany, Poland and central Europe. This progress is attributed, he noted, to ETAP's close collaboration with Hermes Airports, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, hoteliers and air carriers.

The second pillar concerns the transformation of Paphos into a smart and digital destination, Hadjigeorgiou said, adding that during 2025 a wide range of digital transformation actions were implemented, with more than 25 new QR and smart information points, upgraded applications for the UNESCO Archaeological Park and the Myth of Aphrodite, 360° digital and audio tours in five languages, smart signage, data analytics tools and dynamic digital campaigns inside and outside Cyprus. At the same time, Paphos actively participated in European programs such as COSME, Interreg Smart Tour and Erasmus Idemo, making it today an example of a smart destination at the Mediterranean level.

The third pillar concerns the development of thematic tourism and interactive experiences, with the creation of eco-routes and thematic clusters that highlight the hinterland, nature and culture. Particular emphasis was also given to cycling, with the creation of seven gravel routes covering over 30 communities, but also to gastronomy, wine, local products and festivals.

"All of the above essentially reinforces Paphos' transition from the sun and sea model to an experience and quality tourism," Hadjigeorgiou emphasised.
