The Government is in favour of the strategic objective concerning the electricity interconnection between Greece and Cyprus (Great Sea Interconnector-GSI), President Nikos Christodoulides has stated, adding that it was jointly decided with the Greek Prime Minister "to proceed with updating the feasibility study".
Asked by the press to comment on criticism on the home front, accusing the government of "doublespeak" on the electricity interconnection, the President said, "There is no doublespeak by the government" and "there never has been".
He added: "There is a single position from the government, clearly in favour of the electricity interconnection between Greece and Cyprus... The interconnection "is one of the three main pillars of our energy strategy".
President Christodoulides concluded: "The government, precisely because it is responsible, as is the Greek Government, decided jointly with the Greek Prime Minister, and in fact at his suggestion, to proceed with an update of the feasibility study, also in view of the interest shown by other parties, by other countries, in participating in this strategically important project."
