Unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in Q3 2025 from 4.5% in Q3 2024

The number of unemployed persons fell to 21,781 people, or 4.1% of the labour force (3.7% of men and women 4.6%), compared to 23,073 persons (4.5%) in the corresponding quarter of 2024, according to CySTAT.

Based on the results of the Labour Force Survey for the third quarter of 2025, the labour force amounted to 530,992 persons or 65.6% of the population (men 71.1%, women 60.4%) compared to 516,127 persons (65.7%) in the corresponding quarter of 2024.

According to CySTAT, the number of employed persons was 509,211 and the employment rate was 62.9% (men 68.5%, women 57.6%) compared to 493,054 persons (62.7%) in the corresponding quarter of 2024.

Employment

In the 20-64 age group, the employment rate was 81.6% in the third quarter of 2025.

The rate for men was 86.6% and for women 76.8%. In the corresponding quarter of 2024, the rate was 80.7% (men 86.3%, women 75.5%), according to the survey results.

In the 55-64 age group, the employment rate in the third quarter of 2025 was 70.9%, compared to 71.0% in the corresponding quarter of 2024.

According to the distribution of employment by sector, the largest percentage of employees is concentrated in Services with 81.4%, followed by Manufacturing and Agriculture with 16.3% and 2.3% respectively. For the third quarter of 2024, the corresponding percentages were: Services 81.9%, Manufacturing 16.2%, and Agriculture 1.9%.

Part-time employment accounted for 8.8% of total employment or 44,607 people (men 6.8%, women 10.9%). The corresponding percentage for the third quarter of 2024 was 8.7% (men 6.5%, women 11.1%).

Of the total number of employed persons, 90.2% or 459,272 were employees, of whom 15.5% (71,008 persons) had temporary jobs.

In the corresponding quarter of 2024, employees accounted for 90.2% of total employment, of whom 14.5% had temporary jobs.

Unemployment

Furthermore, according to the Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate among young people aged 15-24 was 13.1% of the labour force of the same age group (14.1% for men and women 12.1%) compared to 12.1% (men 10.9%, women 13.4%) in the corresponding quarter of last year.

As far as the duration of unemployment is concerned, 63.8% of all unemployed persons had been looking for work for less than 6 months, 16.8% for 6-11 months, while 19.4% were long-term unemployed.

The corresponding rates for the third quarter of 2024 were 56.3%, 20.2%, and 23.5%.
