Government's efforts for reforms will continue, President underlines

No strike action will stop the government's great effort for reforms in all sectors, President Nikos Christodoulides has said.

He was speaking on 19 November, replying to a question about the strike in the Education sector.

Noting that there has been consultation on the issue, he said that the essence of the government's proposal cannot be changed, referring to a draft bill on the evaluation of teachers.

"The right to strike is fully respected, but the message I want to send is that no strike will stop the government's great effort for reforms in all sectors. It is not possible for our teachers not to be evaluated. This issue must be concluded immediately," the President stressed.

Recalling that the previous government had raised the issue before the Recovery and Resilience Fund, he noted that there is also the economic dimension of the matter.

He said that “the message we are sending as a government is that reforms will continue in all sectors” and referred to the proposals for the Law Office, the educational reform, disability issues. “For the first time in all sectors, these reforms need to be made which aim to serve  the Cypriot people, the Cypriot citizen and we will continue in order to modernise, to upgrade the state of 1960," he stressed.
