The continuous development of Wizz Air in Cyprus, where it has now established itself as one of the main air carriers in the country, has been highlighted by Valentina Eftimov, the airline's Base Manager in Larnaca.
As she noted in a video interview for Hermes Airports' Flight Monde online newsletter, the airline maintains a dynamic presence with 37 routes to 20 countries, four aircraft permanently stationed in Cyprus and a dedicated team of over 160 employees.
She stressed the importance of having a base in Cyprus, which allows Wizz Air to develop and effectively manage its daily flight activities with crews and aircraft operating from the island.
Through close cooperation with Hermes Airports, ground service providers and other partners, the company invests in infrastructure and human resources in the long term, further strengthening Cyprus' role in air transport.
Eftimov's video interview can be seen below, followed by a written transcript:
Could you give us an overview of Wizz Air’s operations in Cyprus?
Wizz Air has established itself as a leading airline in Cyprus. Since beginning operations in 2010, the airline has carried over 10 million passengers. As of 2025, Wizz Air operates 37 routes across 20 countries from two airports in Cyprus, supported by four based aircraft and a dedicated team of over 160 local employees. The airline holds a 17% market share in Cyprus and offered approximately 3 million seats for sale in 2025 alone. These achievements reflect strong market demand and efficient execution, contributing significantly to tourism, business travel, and local employment.
What does it mean for an airline to have a base in Cyprus?
Having a local base in Cyprus means we manage daily flight operations with our locally based crew and aircraft. Crew members arrive ahead of each flight to conduct briefings and prepare for the flight. At the same time, we work closely with the airport, our ground service provider, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination. This setup reflects a long-term investment in infrastructure and workforce, creating jobs and reinforcing Cyprus’s role as a regional travel hub.
Can you explain how Wizz Air simplifies the journey for passengers?
At Wizz Air, putting our customers first is not just a slogan—it is a strategic commitment. In April, we launched Customer First Compass, and we are proud to share that since then, our customer satisfaction rate has increased by 10%. One example is MyJourney, a digital tool designed to support passengers during disruptions. It provides real-time updates and guidance, helping customers navigate unexpected changes with ease and confidence.
We are also enhancing accessibility and inclusivity onboard. Our aircraft cabins now feature Braille symbols, we are upgrading our onboard medical equipment to ensure safer and more comfortable travel and we have introduced a dedicated FAQ page on our website to support passengers with disabilities or special medical needs.
Ultimately, traveling with Wizz Air is all about simplicity and affordability. Customers can book online in seconds, check in digitally, and use self-service kiosks at the airport—then head straight to the gate. No long queues, no hassle. And with our low fares, flying is no longer a luxury—it’s accessible, convenient, and designed for everyone.
What does achieving a 99.4% flight completion rate in 2025 reveal about Wizz Air’s operational standards?
Wizz Air is proud of its operational reliability. In 2025, our flight delivery and completion rate in Cyprus (operated flights versus scheduled flights) reached an outstanding 99.4%. This means nearly every scheduled flight was successfully operated, showcasing our commitment to punctuality and customer trust. Achieving this requires precise planning and a dedicated team, reinforcing Wizz Air’s reliability.
Wizz Air’s base in Cyprus is not just about planes—it’s about people, progress, and possibilities. With strong operations, a growing team, and a clear commitment to the island, we are proud to be part of Cyprus’s journey forward. The skies are open, the routes are expanding, and the future looks bright. Let’s WIZZ!
