Inauguration Ceremony of the New Nicosia Area Control Centre

Area Control Centres and Control Towers are critical infrastructures for maintaining the safety and efficient flow of air traffic.

As global transport evolves and demand for higher safety and efficiency increases, continuous upgrades and modernization of these facilities are crucial for addressing contemporary challenges and improving a country’s connectivity.

In this context, the operation of the new Nicosia Area Control Centre represents a significant milestone for Cyprus. This advanced facility strengthens the country’s ability to deliver high-quality air traffic control services, and enhances the resiliency of the country’s international transportation backbone.

The Department of Civil Aviation will host the inauguration ceremony of the new Centre’s facilities on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at 15:30. The event will take place at the Centre’s premises, located at 12 Lochagou Kapota Street, Kokkinotrimithia Industrial Area, and will be officially inaugurated by H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.

About the Department of Civil Aviation

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) was established in 1955 by the colonial Government of Cyprus to support the growing importance of air transport in the overall development of the country.

The DCA’s mission is to provide safe and efficient traffic management services, regulate and oversee civil aviation within the Republic of Cyprus and the Nicosia Flight Information Region (FIR), in compliance with European and national legislation, as well as international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The DCA’s vision is to promote a modern, safe, efficient, and sustainable air transport system that strengthens Cyprus’ connectivity with other EU member states and third countries, but also its regional dimension, contributing to the development of the Republic of Cyprus and offering better services to its citizens.

Participation in the event is by invitation only.
