Cyprus to Host the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (jBOI) 2025

The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) will be organising the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (jBOI) 2025, which will be hosted in Cyprus from 24–30 October 2025 in Larnaca.

The competition will be held at the “Tasos Mitsopoulos” High School in Aradippou, with the sponsorship and support of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, under whose auspices the event will take place, a CSC press release notes.

The Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics is an annual competitive programming event that brings together talented young secondary school students from the Balkans. Each participating country is represented by a team of outstanding young programmers who compete in solving challenging algorithmic problems under International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) rules.

For the 2025 edition, delegations from 10 countries will participate. The preliminary program includes two competition days, cultural excursions, and opportunities for participants to explore Cyprus’ rich history, natural beauty, and renowned culinary traditions. The Opening Ceremony will be held on Saturday, 25 October, while the Closing Ceremony and Medal Awarding will take place on Wednesday, 29 October.

"Cyprus has a strong tradition of excellence in international informatics competitions. In recent years, Cypriot teams have achieved commemorable results, including seven medals and three honourable mentions at international Olympiads in 2024, a gold medal at the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) 2025, and two bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2025 held in Bolivia," the CSC announcement points out.

“Hosting the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics is a great honor for Cyprus. It highlights our commitment to nurturing young talent in digital skills, programming, and innovation, while also showcasing Cyprus as a hub for education and technology in the region,” said Andreas Loutsios Vice-Chairman of the Cyprus Computer Society.

"The CCS warmly welcomes all delegations to Cyprus and looks forward to an inspiring week of learning, competition, and intercultural exchange," the announcement concludes.
