Cabinet approves €18m employment schemes for 2,110 persons

The Cabinet has approved schemes aiming to boost employment for a total of 2,110 persons and with a budget of €18 million.

Labour Minister, Yiannis Panayiotou, told the press after the Cabinet's 3 September meeting that the Ministers had been briefed on the objectives as regards the labour market and full employment conditions over the past two years, adding that four targeted incentive plans were approved to recruit citizens who are currently non-productive.

He said that the unemployment rate is now below 5%, reaching 2008 levels, while the employment rate exceeded 80%, which is the best performance recorded over time and an achievement of a European target set with a time horizon of 2030.

The schemes approved on Wednesday, 3 September, are promoted in combination with other similar policies in order to have full employment conditions, with an emphasis on specific groups of citizens. These plans are focused on women of any age, on citizens aged 50 to 65 and 15-29, as well as on women who seek flexible working arrangements.

These plans are co-financed through the 'Thalia 2021-2027' cohesion policy programme.
