European Affairs Minister and British official discuss deepening cooperation

Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, described her meeting with Michael Elam, the UK’s Second Permanent Secretary for EU and International Economic Affairs, as “very constructive”, noting that they discussed further deepening bilateral cooperation ahead of the Cypriot EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2026.

Raouna, who is paying London a working visit, said in a post on X that "we exchanged views on the renewed EU–UK relationship, following the positive outcomes of the first EU–UK Summit in May."

The discussions between the two officials focused on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities and further deepening the cooperation between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, especially in light of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.

“As we prepare for the Cypriot Presidency, we are committed to working closely with the UK, with a forward-looking and  results-oriented agenda, grounded in mutual trust and strategic cooperation,” Raouna concluded.
