Vafeades and Regev discuss strengthening Cyprus-Israel cooperation on transport

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, had the opportunity to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation on transport issues with the Israeli Minister of Transport, Miri Regev, during the meeting that took place as part of her recent official visit to Cyprus.

The meeting took place in a "particularly positive and constructive atmosphere, confirming the close cooperation between Cyprus and Israel and the willingness of both sides to further enhance it in the fields of transport and infrastructure," an 8 July Ministry press release said.

It is noted that during the 7 July meeting, issues discussed, among others, concerned strengthening cooperation in the ports of the two countries, with a view to exchanging know-how and best practices in management issues, strengthening cooperation in the field of air transport, the promotion of mutual recognition of driving licences with a view to facilitating mobility between the two countries, and cooperation in the field of cyber security in transport, with an emphasis on the protection of critical infrastructure and the prevention of cyber threats.

The Israeli Minister of Transport was accompanied by the Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus, Oren Anolik, and senior officials from the Israeli Ministry of Transport.

This visit, the Ministry notes, "is another step towards strengthening bilateral relations in the strategic sector of transport, based on reciprocity, trust and a common desire for safe and modern infrastructure."
