Study commissioned on the construction of a land-based electricity supply system at new Limassol port

Cyprus Ports Authority has announced the signing of the contract with the contractor company DBA SpA for the study of the construction of a land-based electricity supply system at the New Port of Limassol.

The study will cover technical, economic and environmental aspects of the installation, as well as the required adjustments to the existing port infrastructure, and its completion will form the basis for the implementation of the OPS system.

This is a project of strategic importance for Cyprus, aligned with European policies for reducing the carbon footprint in the maritime sector and the EU Green Deal, the announcement notes, adding that it also constitutes an important step towards the green transition and sustainable development of Cyprus' ports.

The Cyprus Ports Authority, within the framework of its mission to continuously upgrade port infrastructure and enhance environmental sustainability, considers the implementation of the OPS as a key tool for achieving the climate goals of the country and the European Union, it said.

The contract is part of the co-funded European project DecarbonLIM (Decarbonising Limassol Port through OPS and Renewable Energy Solutions), which is being implemented with the support of the European Union.

The project is being implemented by the Cyprus Ports Authority in collaboration with Frederick University, the Limassol Port management companies DP World Limassol Ltd and Eurogate Ltd, as well as the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, the Cyprus Transmission System Operator and Limassol Municipality.
