President Nikos Christodoulides has met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Italian company ENI, Claudio Descalzi in Rome.
ENI operates in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The meeting was taking place in the context of President Christodoulides’ official visit to the Italian capital.
According to a statement from the Presidency, during the Friday, 27 February meeting, President Christodoulides referred to his meeting yesterday (Thursday, 26 February) with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, during which it was decided to initiate dialogue aimed at developing bilateral relations at the level of strategic cooperation.
He also noted that Meloni will visit Cyprus to participate in the informal European Council in April, and mentioned that efforts are being made to arrange a bilateral visit by her either before or after the European Council.
President Christodoulides added that yesterday’s meeting was a very good one, pointing out that he and the Italian Prime Minister share identical views on many issues, particularly within the European Council.
He also said that he and Meloni discussed extensively the IMEC, which, as he noted, is also a matter of interest to ENI.
