ERATOSTHENES-UAE explore collaboration in Earth Observation, Space Technologies

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence recently hosted Mohammed Saif Helal Mohammed AlShehhi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Cyprus, in a meeting that "marked the beginning of a promising dialogue aimed at establishing a sustainable and mutually beneficial collaboration between ERATOSTHENES and UAE government, authorities and private organisations."
According to a relevant press release, discussions focused on Cyprus’ strategic geographic position, the upcoming Cyprus EU presidency and the Centre’s advanced know-how, solutions and infrastructure in Earth Observation, Remote Sensing, and Geoinformatics.
Particular attention was given to ERATOSTHENES’ state-of-the-art services and platforms, including the PRECiRRI platform for smart agriculture, the NADIRISK system for natural disaster risk assessment, and the Satellite Data Acquisition Station (sDAS) that soon will be operational, which collectively support data-driven decision-making in climate and society resilience, environmental monitoring, and sustainable development.
Educational and training programs for space tech and applications, the newly launched space business incubator Space BIC and technology / innovation mutual actions were also discussed.
Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of the ERATOSTHENES Centre said that they are confident that they can build a meaningful collaboration with the UAE to address regional challenges and promote innovation in space and Earth observation technologies.
The meeting laid the foundation for a long-term partnership. Additional meetings are planned in the coming months to further shape the framework of collaboration and co-develop initiatives that will benefit both countries through knowledge exchange and innovation, the press release reads.
