No new FMD cases reported, according to the Agriculture Ministry

The latest lab results did not indicate any new foot-to-mouth disease cases, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has said.

The Cabinet will discuss an action plan to tackle FMD on Monday, 16 March, President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Saturday afternoon.

The number of farms affected by the virus remained at 38 throughout the weekend, which is a positive sign, Veterinary Officer, Sotiria Grigoriadou told a press briefing on Saturday. Nevertheless, she stressed that the situation could get worse, if protocols are not fully implemented and the affected animals are not culled.

"These are difficult times and the ask for bold decisions," President Christodoulides said during a meeting in Pachna, Limassol, on the implementation of the plan in fire-stricken areas. The President added that the Cabinet will decide at its meeting on Monday on a specific action plan to support livestock farming.
