"Trikoupi Street is coming back to life in the heart of the historic centre of old Nicosia," the capital's Mayor, Charalambos Prountzos, posted on his social media, announcing that the EU-funded makeover has been completed.
"This project is transforming the area into a modern, welcoming and functional public space — a true gem for our capital," Prountzos added, noting that the works were initiated under the previous municipal administration.

Indeed, the project involved enhancing public infrastructure, improving accessibility for people with disabilities, and upgrading facilities to support existing businesses in the area, according to officials.
The improvements include upgraded pavements, enhanced lighting systems, and barrier-free access routes throughout the street area. Local businesses are expected to benefit from increased foot traffic and improved infrastructure.

The regeneration was carried out under the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALEIA 2021–2027”, which is co-funded by the European Union. Its aim is to substantially upgrade the urban environment.

"Infrastructure has been improved, mobility has been made easier for everyone — including Persons with Disabilities — and the existing business potential in the area has been strengthened," the Mayor said. "This project is yet another step towards a more people-friendly, accessible and sustainable Nicosia."
