The main cultural activities of Cyprus Presidency of EU Council in January

The Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU begins in January with a variety of activities both inside and outside Cyprus.

The programme includes – among other things – art and photography exhibitions, as well as a concert.

According to the website of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the international part of the programme includes cultural activities in 31 countries, with emblematic interventions in 11 countries and a parallel programme of events through the Embassies of the Republic of Cyprus in an additional 20 countries.

On 21 January, the Gala Opening of the Cyprus Presidency will take place, with a concert by the Cypriot composer Stavros Lantsias with a five-piece musical ensemble, at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, in Brussels.

On January 22, the decoration of the Justus Lipsius & Europa buildings with works by Cypriot artists and furniture design will be inaugurated. The curatorship and design of the decoration belong to Michalis Anastasiades.

On January 27, a photographic exhibition by Andros Efstathiou entitled “Nicosia International Airport” will be inaugurated at the European Parliament.

As for the actions that will take place in Cyprus, on January 17, the renovated permanent exhibitions of the Cyprus Museum will be inaugurated, curated by the Ephorate of Museums of the Department of Antiquities.

On January 29, the art exhibition “Agropoetics: Soils/Bodies”, curated by Dr. Elena Parpa, will be inaugurated at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art – SPEL, in Nicosia.

Throughout the Presidency, the visual intervention "Encounters: The Worlds of Cyprus" will be presented, curated by Dr. Christina Lambrou, while at Larnaca International Airport "Glafkos Clerides" there will be visual interventions, curated by the Deputy Ministry of Culture.
