The Cyprus Shipping Chamber has successfully held its annual Award Ceremony for the 'Adopt a Ship' Educational Programme for the academic year 2024-2025.
During the ceremony, addresses were delivered by the Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis, Member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors Andreas Hadjipetrou and Chairman of the Chamber’s Educational Activities Committee Nicolas Asimenos.
In the context of the International Day of the Seafarer, celebrated annually on 25 June, a highlight of the event was the presentation by Captain Andreas Christodoulou of Schoeller Holdings, who spoke about seafaring as a career, inspiring attendees and teachers alike, a Chamber announcement on the ceremony noted.
As part of the event, the Chamber awarded participation certificates to the teachers who took part in the programme throughout the year. In total, during the 2024-2025 academic year, 95 vessels owned by Member-Companies of the Chamber were “adopted” by 95 elementary school classes across Cyprus.
The 'Adopt a Ship' Programme is an initiative of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and CYMEPA. It has been running uninterruptedly since 2006 and is officially supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, and the Shipping Deputy Ministry.
The Programme’s success is also reflected in its international expansion, with implementation in countries such as Greece, the Philippines, Poland, India and the United States, broadening the educational horizons on seafaring and shipping of elementary students around the world.
"The Chamber expresses its sincere appreciation to its Member-Company Columbia Shipmanagement for hosting the ceremony and to CYMEPA for its long-standing cooperation in the execution of the Programme," the announcement concluded.
