Economic sentiment in Cyprus deteriorated in June 2025, according to survey
07:49 - 27 June 2025

Economic sentiment in Cyprus deteriorated further in June 2025, as the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) decreased by 0.8 points compared with May, according to the Business and Consumer Survey by the University of Cyprus's Economics Research Centre.
This decrease was driven by weaker business confidence in all sectors except construction.
According to a press release from the Economics Research Centre at the University of Cyprus, the Services Confidence Indicator declined for the third consecutive month, driven by worsening assessments of the current business situation, including turnover, despite an improvement in turnover expectations.
The decrease in the Retail Trade Confidence Indicator was due to a deterioration in firms’ views on current sales and stock levels. The Construction Confidence Indicator increased as a result of improved assessments of current order book levels, despite downward revisions in employment expectations.
As the survey points out, the decline in the Industry Confidence Indicator was driven by a deterioration in firms’ assessments of the current stock levels and downward revisions in production expectations.
The Consumer Confidence Indicator increased slightly for the second month in a row. The increase mainly resulted from upward revisions in consumers’ expectations about the economic conditions in Cyprus, and consumers’ stronger intentions to make major purchases over the next months.
The Economic Uncertainty Indicator for Cyprus rose in June, following a five-month period on a downward path. While business uncertainty increased across all sectors – most notably services and retail trade – consumer uncertainty declined again in June.
