Cabinet approves new €2.5m e-mobility scheme
13:03 - 25 June 2025

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades has announced a new scheme to boost e-mobility in Cyprus, following its approval by the Cabinet.
Speaking after the 25 June Cabinet meeting, Vafeades said the scheme was part of the state's ongoing commitment to the transition to clean and sustainable forms of transportation and aimed at boosting the market for purely electric and hybrid vehicles through state resources.
The Minister explained that electromobility was one of the key priorities of government policy, because the transition to clean forms of transportation was essential for achieving Cyprus' environmental goals.
Within the framework of the new scheme, he noted, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works aimed to strengthen the market for electric vehicles providing grants and incentives for the purchase of new and used vehicles, so that electromobility would become accessible to more citizens.
Vafeades added that before the implementation of the new scheme, within the framework of the third announcement of the plan to promote electromobility in Cyprus, 97 grants for vehicles and 18 for motorcycles that resulted from applications that were not linked to an order or that were canceled were to be made available again. He noted that upon the exhaustion of these grants, the launch of the new scheme to support electromobility from state resources would be announced.
He also stated that the new scheme had been allocated an amount of €2.5 million from the state budget and that the amounts of the grants were the same as those of the previous plan, with a total of 260 grants for the purchase of purely electric and hybrid vehicles. He clarified that citizens who had ordered a car after the end of the previous plan could also apply to claim a grant.
Concluding, Vafeades stated that an announcement regarding the distribution of the various sponsorship categories, the date of their availability, as well as the terms of the scheme, would be posted on the Department of Road Transport's website.
