Koumis outlines Cyprus EU Presidency and tourism support policies at Poland conference

The upcoming assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by the Republic of Cyprus was highlighted by Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis at a Ministerial Conference of the Polish EU Presidency on Tourism in Warsaw.
He also presented the policies implemented by Cyprus to support the tourism sector, strengthen rural areas, promote authenticity, as well as actions implemented by the country in relation to the green transition and digital transformation.
According to a Deputy Ministry statement, "during the meeting, European Ministers exchanged views on the current situation and future prospects for tourism in Europe, with a particular focus on strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of the sector, balanced regional development, and the transition to a sustainable and digitally smart tourism model”.
As stated, the European Commissioner for Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, highlighted in his opening remarks “the importance of the tourism sector in Europe, a sector which, as he pointed out, contributes 10% of Europe's GDP with 3 million small and medium-sized enterprises employing 20 million people”.
“Tourism has proven its resilience in recent years, having been called upon to face major challenges such as the pandemic, but also geopolitical tensions in Russia, Ukraine and the Middle East”, he added.
It is added that Koumis highlighted in his statement "the upcoming assumption of the European Presidency by the Republic of Cyprus and went on to present the policies implemented by Cyprus to support the tourism sector, strengthen rural areas, promote authenticity, as well as the actions our country is implementing in relation to the green transition and digital transformation."
During the conference, Koumis had separate meetings with European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas, his Polish counterpart Piotr Borys and his French counterpart Geoffroy Cailloux, as well as with Polish strategic partners of Cyprus.
