MoU signed for creation of a Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Nicosia

The High Commissioner of India to Cyprus, Shri Manish, and the Rector of the University of Nicosia, Dr Philippos Pouyioutas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Nicosia.

According to a press release, this is the first such Chair to be hosted at a university in Cyprus and co-funded by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

The signing ceremony took place before the 'Cyprus–India Business Round Table on Advancing a Strategic Economic Partnership', which was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the ceremony, the High Commissioner explained that ICCR and the University of Nicosia will jointly select the first Professor-Chair.

Rector Pouyioutas expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and noted that the Chair will offer the university community, and also all citizens of Cyprus, an open window to India's civilization and rich culture, further strengthening the ties between the peoples of the two countries.
