Bounced cheques at €62,164 in May after decreasing to €22,860 in April

The value of bounced cheques issued in May 2025 increased to €62,164, compared to the previous month and to May last year, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).

According to CBC data, in relation to the registrations of persons in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of bounced cheques, in May 2025, 18 bounced cheques were issued, with a total value of €62,164, compared to 23 bounced cheques worth only €22,860 in April 2025 and 23 bounced cheques worth €36,910 in May last year.

The total number of legal entities and natural persons registered in the preliminary list of the CIR in May 2025 amounted to 14, of which nine were legal entities and five were natural persons.

During the period January – May 2025, according to CBC data, 102 bounced cheques were registered in the preliminary list of the CPF, with a total value of €241,588, compared to 131 checks in the corresponding period last year, with a total value of €289,898.

The bounced cheques in the period January – May 2025 concerned a total of 56 persons (34 legal entities and 22 natural persons).

Furthermore, according to CBC data, the number of persons registered in the CIR amounted to eight in May 2025, of which three concern legal entities and five natural persons controlling legal entities. No natural person was registered in the CIR in May.

During the period January - May 2025, a total of 46 persons were registered in the CIR, of which 18 legal entities, seven natural persons, and 21 natural persons controlling legal entities. In the corresponding period last year, a total of 101 persons were registered in the CIR.
