RISE: Partners conclude European project for research, innovation and urban regeneration

The final meeting of the European project RISE (Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies), coordinated by the Municipality of Nicosia, took place on 24 April at CYENS Centre of Excellence, in the heart of the walled city.

The meeting ‘’marked a significant milestone for Nicosia, concluding a project that strengthened research, innovation, and urban regeneration in the city", the municipality said announcing the news.

It added that the event brought together all key project partners: the Municipality of Nicosia, the University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus, as well as international academic partners University College London (UCL) and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics. It further noted that the meeting highlighted the project's development over the years, along with the main strategic directions for the sustainability and future growth of the Centre.

"As a founding partner of CYENS and coordinator of the RISE project, the Municipality of Nicosia highlighted the importance of close collaboration between local government, universities, and international research institutions," it said, adding: "CYENS, based in the heart of the historic centre, has evolved into a hub for innovation, creative technology, and smart solutions with social impact. The Centre’s work has significantly contributed to strengthening human capital, encouraging entrepreneurship, and attracting talent and high-tech companies to Nicosia. At the same time, it has enhanced the link between research and the real economy, offering innovative and applicable solutions in fields such as digital twins, culture, local development, and the digital transformation of cities."

The Municipality of Nicosia concluded that it "remains firmly committed to supporting CYENS and maintaining its momentum as a driver of sustainable development, innovation, and the positioning of Nicosia as a European hub for research, technology, and creativity".
