Cyta has signed an agreement for the acquisition of Simplex’s state-of-the-art data centre LCA1 in Larnaca.
The semi-government company said in a press release that the move significantly strengthens its technological infrastructure and reaffirms its leading role in Cyprus’ digital development.
The Simplex LCA1 data centre is the largest privately-owned data centre in Cyprus, with an area of almost 1,000 sq.m., a maximum power capacity approaching 1MW and designed to be compliant to the Tier III standard. It features backup systems for reliable operation and high availability, as well as advanced systems for both physical and cyber security. It was designed with strict specifications and standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, EMAS), offering energy efficiency and the ability to utilize renewable energy sources. It is a member of the European Data Center Association (EUDCA) and has signed the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact (CNDCP).
The acquisition of the Simplex LCA1 data centre will enrich the high-availability services that Cyta already provides to businesses, governments and international organisations operating in the region, the press release said, adding that alongside the ongoing development of its submarine cable network and the forthcoming development of a new green data centre, this implements the organisation's long-term strategy to establish Cyprus as a regional hub for data infrastructure.
Cyta CEO Andreas Neocleous stated: “The acquisition of Simplex’s data centre is not just an investment in technology. It is a declaration of intent. We want Cyprus to have control over its digital infrastructure and data sovereignty. To be a point of reference in the region for stability, security, and sustainability in the data sector. This acquisition brings us one step closer to that goal and at the same time allows us to deliver more rapidly innovative, advanced services to the market. At Cyta, we work with vision and awareness of our role, in full alignment and cooperation with the state and all stakeholders, to build a digital, technologically advanced Cyprus – a progress that concerns and includes everyone.”
Simplex Founder and CEO, Michalis Omerou, added, “Driven by our commitment to excellent customer service, our passion for innovation, and hard work, we developed Simplex into the leading Data Centre services provider in Cyprus. After 20 years, the time has come for Simplex to move into its next phase, and Cyta is the ideal partner for this. Cyta’s strong brand and wide portfolio of services create synergies for further development and even more innovative services, serving as a guarantee of success for our customers, both current and future, and for the establishment of Cyprus as a regional digital hub. I feel proud that the future of the Simplex LCA1 data centre now passes on to the hands of Cyta, an organisation with proven expertise, transparency, and strategic vision for the future of technology in Cyprus and the wider region”.
