Cyprus EU Presidency to work for completion of initiatives, Minister says

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Marinos Moushouttas has expressed the determination of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU to work for the successful completion of the initiatives that are currently on the table.

Moushouttas, who paid a working visit to Brussels, expressed to the rapporteurs of the European Parliament the commitment of the Cyprus EU Presidency to exercise its role as an honest and impartial mediator between the member states and the EU institutions, promoting balanced and sustainable compromises.

“The Cyprus Presidency remains committed to strengthening the social pillar of the EU, placing particular emphasis on the protection of workers, quality jobs and the adaptation of the labor market to new economic and technological challenges,” he pointed out, according to a press release by the Ministry.

The Minister underlined that the creation of quality jobs and the promotion of fair employment and fair worker mobility are building blocks of European social policy and contribute to strengthening social justice, cohesion and inclusive sustainable development.

During the 12 January visit, the Minister had a series of meetings with rapporteurs of the European Parliament on the legislative dossiers under negotiation, as well as with Director-General of the Directorate-General for Employment and Social Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, David Brozina.
