Labour Minister presents Cyprus' positive labour results at Tripartite Social Summit in Brussels

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Yiannis Panayiotou has presented the positive results that have been achieved over the last two years in the Cypriot labour market as a result of the consistent implementation of European employment policies at the Tripartite Social Summit in Brussels.

The Minister, who participated in the 19 March Tripartite Social Summit in view of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, stressed Cyprus' political will to improve the labour market by creating full employment conditions, quality jobs, appropriate skills, adequate salaries, sustainable pensions and better supervision for enhanced productivity and increased competitiveness.

According to a Ministry press release, the Tripartite Social Summit was held under the co-chair of President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. It focused on the interconnection of economic growth and social cohesion, through a European employment policy, given the current geopolitical circumstances and challenges.

According to an official press release, Panayiotou presented the positive results achieved over the last two years in the Cypriot labour market, as a result of the consistent implementation of European employment policies. He referred  to the increase in minimum salaries, the renewal of major labour agreements and the expansion of the participation in training programmes, which led to an increase in employment, an improvement in earnings, and, in particular, to the achievement of the largest reduction in youth unemployment among all EU states, the press release says.

Panayiotou also underlined Cyprus’ determination to contribute to the further upgrading of professional skills both at national level and in the context of the Trio Presidency, as well as the Cyprus Presidency, during the first half of 2026.
