The Cyprus Union of Shipowners assesses the completion and outcome of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union positively, underlining that the country used the six months of its term to strengthen its position on the European shipping chart.

In a relevant statement, the Union congratulates the Republic of Cyprus on the successful completion of the Presidency, noting that it had been characterised by decisive leadership, constructive diplomacy and clear strategic orientation. As the Union's statement said, this period has contributed to the strengthening of European maritime policy and the promotion of common priorities for the Union.
The Union attributes the success to the professionalism, consistency and dedication of those who represented Cyprus during the Presidency, stressing that the country has confirmed its role as one of the most powerful voices in European shipping.
At the same time, it points out that the Union actively participated in the most important institutional events of the Cyprus Presidency, such as the opening ceremony in Nicosia, the high-level ministerial conference on the future of seafarers in Limassol, the EU Trade Policy Retreat in Geneva, as well as the events of European Maritime Day 2026. According to the Union, these interventions highlighted the importance of shipping on the European agenda and strengthened cooperation between institutions and the shipping industry.
The Cyprus Union of Shipowners also expresses its special thanks to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos and the Deputy Minister of European Affairs Marilena Rauna, noting that their contribution had been decisive for the successful completion of the Cyprus Presidency.
In closing, the Union states that it looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with European institutions and shipping bodies, with the aim of further enhancing the competitiveness of European shipping and keeping Cyprus in a leading role in industry developments.
