President: “Where there's a will, there's a way. I am ready”

“Where there's a will, there's a way. I am ready”, President Nikos Christodoulides stated ahead of the plenary session that is taking place in Geneva as part of the informal meeting on Cyprus in a broader format.

The Plenary Session, which is taking place in the Palais des Nations UN building in Geneva, began at 13:00 (Cyprus time) and is the last part of the informal meeting on Cyprus in a broader format convened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to discuss the way forward regarding the Cyprus issue.

First one to arrive at the building was UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who was accompanied by Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, Rosemary DiCarlo, and Special Representative of the UNSG for Cyprus, Colin Stewart. 

Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Europe and North America Stephen Doughty, and British High Commissioner to Cyprus, Michael Tatham followed. Next ones to enter the building were Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis, followed by leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Ersin Tatar, and President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

Invited by journalists to make a statement, President Christodoulides said  “Where there is a will, there is a way. I am ready.” 

The last to arrive at the building was Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan.

The plenary session will be closed. 

Afterwards, the President of the Republic is expected to brief the members of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President on the Cyprus issue.
