Deloitte's Ilham Hmimou on how AI is revolutionising tax services

Artificial intelligence is driving game-changing innovations in tax strategy and compliance in regions such as the Middle East and Europe.

The use of AI allows professionals to advance customised tax strategies, while compliance requirements become more efficient and accurate.

At the same time, this technology is also accompanied by new challenges. The next generation of tax solutions will be AI-driven and the consequences for the industry will be decisive.

This was highlighted by Ilham Hmimou, Director, Tax & Legal, Transfer Pricing, Deloitte Middle East in an interesting presentation on how artificial intelligence and data analytics are shaping the future of tax services at the 8th Cyprus International Tax Conference.

Artificial intelligence is changing taxation

As Hmimou explained, AI is no longer a tool of the future, but a technology that is already shaping the way tax services operate and adapt. Businesses are leveraging solutions such as AI & Data Strategy, Industry Value Mapping Tool and Benchmarking Libraries to improve their tax strategy and data management.

In her presentation, she analysed the Data Governance Framework, a mechanism that ensures that tax data is accurate, reliable and compliant with regulatory requirements. At the same time, she emphasised the importance of Data Integration & Sharing, where modern tools allow for the secure exchange and analysis of information between tax authorities and businesses.

One of the highlights of her talk was the presentation of Genie, an AI-powered tool by Deloitte that is changing the game in tax data analysis. With capabilities such as Natural Language Understanding, Text Summarisation and Conversational Agents, Genie offers automated data categorisation, enhanced reporting capabilities and intelligent real-time analysis.

Security and compliance in the age of AI

Hmimou also touched on the role of artificial intelligence in ensuring tax compliance and data protection. Companies are now adopting Data Privacy & Security Frameworks, with the aim of shielding tax information against cyber threats and legal violations.

Concluding her presentation, she emphasised that AI is not here to replace tax professionals, but to empower them. Automated analysis, improved accuracy, and faster compliance create a more transparent and efficient tax environment. Companies that adapt quickly to this new landscape will have a clear competitive advantage.
