Total motor vehicle registrations down 13.6% in February

Total motor vehicle registrations in February 2025 reached 3,757, a 13.6% decrease from 4,346 in February 2024, according to a report published by CySTAT on Motor Vehicle Registrations for January-February 2025.

It is added that correspondingly, passenger saloon car registered a fall by 15.5% to 2,908 from 3,443 in February 2024.

According to the report, the total number of registered vehicles decreased by 8.8% in the January-February 2025 period to 7,834, compared to 8,589 during the same period in 2024.

In addition, passenger saloon car registrations decreased by 11.5% to 6,084, compared to 6,873 in the same period in 2024. Of the total passenger saloon car registrations, 2,849 or 46.8% were new and 3,235 or 53.2% were used cars. Rental cars in particular recorded a 9.7% increase to 555.

It is further noted that the share of petrol-powered saloon cars in the total of this category of vehicles decreased in the January-February 2025 period to 41.6% (from 50.3% in the corresponding period of 2024), as did the share of diesel-powered cars (from 10.4% in 2024 to 9.2% in 2025). In contrast, the share of electric vehicles rose from 3.1% in 2024 to 5.3% in 2025 and that of hybrids from 36.3% to 43.9% respectively.

It is also added that motor coaches and bus registrations decreased to 20 in the January-February 2025 period, from 59 in the same period in 2024, while registrations of goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 5.3% to 915 in the January-February 2025 period, compared to 966 in the same period in 2024.

In particular, light goods vehicles increased by 1.0% to 773, while heavy goods vehicles decreased by 12.7% to 89, road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 15.2% to 28, and rental vehicles decreased by 62.1% to 25.

Finally, registrations of mopeds under 50 cc decreased to 49 in the January-February 2025 period, compared to 92 in the same period in 2024, while registrations of motorcycles over 50 cc increased 36.6% to 661 in the January-February 2025 period, compared to 484 in the same period in 2024.
