Cypriot Marios Georgiou voted Top Male Gymnast in Europe for 2024

Marios Georgiou has won the Male Gymnast of the Year category in a vote organised by European Gymnastics, a continental union that represents the interests of Europe in the International Gymnastics Federation.

According to a post by the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation on social media, the Cypriot champion collected 26,260 votes (50.6%) after six days of voting.

"Marios continues to make us proud with his distinctions and make history in gymnastics! Congratulations, Marios! Thank you to everyone who voted for Marios," the federation said.

Also, in its own post on social media, the Cyprus Sports Organisation congratulated Marios Georgiou for being named the top gymnastics athlete in Europe for 2024.

"Many congratulations to Marios Georgiou who continues to make history and leave his imprint on Cypriot gymnastics!" it added.

Congratulations to the Cypriot champion were also conveyed by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, in a written statement on the afternoon. on 26 February.

"His great distinctions, such as being declared European champion in the combined individual at the European Championships, in Rimini, Italy, in 2024, as well as the fact that he was ranked sixth Olympic champion at the Olympic Games in Paris, have brought him today on the highest podium, at the European level, in gymnastics. This is a top moment for Cypriot Sport and for our country," President Christodoulides said.

"I would like to express my warmest congratulations to Marios Georgiou and his coaches for this highest distinction. Athletes like Marios Georgiou increase the footprint of Cypriot Sport and Cyprus internationally", concluded the President.
