Christodoulides' visit to Cairo strengthens cooperation in tourism, trade, investments

The prospects of further opening up bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as issues related to regional developments, were discussed in Cairo by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The President of the Republic traveled to Cairo to attend, together with his Egyptian counterpart, the signing ceremony of an Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Cyprus, Egypt, and the companies operating in the Cypriot EEZ.
Immediately upon his arrival in Cairo, President Christodoulides went to the Al Manara International Conference Centre, where the EGYPES 2025 exhibition is taking place, and was welcomed by President el-Sisi. The two Presidents then held a bilateral meeting.

During their meeting, the two Presidents underlined the great importance of the Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding for the energy cooperation between the two countries. They also pointed out that through them, the Cyprus-Egypt energy cooperation is being put on a track for substantial implementation.
During the meeting, which took place with the participation of delegations from the two countries, the next energy goals and milestones were discussed and the importance of further developing energy cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Egypt was underlined, both at the bilateral and regional levels, since it constitutes a model of cooperation and the promotion of peace, stability and development in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Regional and international developments, EU-Egypt relations, as well as bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, were also discussed in the context of the results of the 2nd Intergovernmental Summit between the two countries, as well as the 10th Trilateral Summit with Greece.
In addition to the Energy sector, the cooperation between the two countries in various sectors was further discussed, such as Tourism, Trade, Investments, as well as the issue concerning the seasonal employment of Egyptians in Cyprus.
Finally, President Christodoulides informed President el-Sisi about the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the efforts being made to resume negotiations from the point where they have been interrupted, and in particular about the preparatory work in view of the expanded meeting to be convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
