The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will hold a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhürman, on Wednesday, 26 August, at 4 pm, under the auspices of the United Nations, it was announced on Wednesday.
According to a written statement issued by Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou, the meeting has been scheduled following an agreement between the negotiators of the two sides.
The meeting is part of what was agreed during the recent visit of the UN Secretary-General to Cyprus. Its aim is to prepare for the convening of a new expanded conference, the statement added.
As noted in the statement, the goal is “to resume substantive negotiations from the point where they were interrupted, for a comprehensive resolution of the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the agreed framework and the convergences that have been achieved.”
