Agriculture Ministry is highlighting policies that promote traditional products

The Agriculture Ministry places special emphasis on Cyprus’ traditional products and introduces policies that promote these products, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Andreas Gregoriou has said.

He was speaking on 9 August, delivering a speech at the opening of the Traditional Taste Festival of Ayia Napa.

Gregoriou spoke of the government’s agricultural policy and the actions to establish a Cypriot label awarding system, which will give an additional boost to the island’s local products, as he noted.

Gregoriou also said that ten Cypriot products have already been registered in the European Union registers as having Protected Geographical Indication status, while two have been designated Protected Designation of Origin status.

He said that festivals like the one in Ayia Napa promote the Cypriot culture and its local products and at the same time contribute significantly to the agricultural economy.
