Labour Minister highlights need for the promotion of social justice

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Yiannis Panayiotou has highlighted the importance for the renewal of the social contract and the promotion of social justice so that political institutions would recover the citizens’ trust.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry, Panayiotou addressed the Assembly of the Labour Conference of the International Labour Organisation taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Cypriot Minister stressed the need for the implementation of policies which would improve the citizens’ everyday lives placing emphasis on strengthening the adequacy of salaries and securing a decent pension income.

During his presence in ILO headquarters, Panayiotou met with the ILO Director-General Giblert F. Houngbo, with whom he discussed Cyprus’ active participation in the Global Alliance for social justice through the contribution in the development and utilization of policy tools for social rights and tangible and measurable results.

Panayiotou will address the the inaugural conference of the Global Alliance will take place next Thursday.
